Steering and Suspension System - Auto Parts

Most car owners and drivers do not know a lot about their car’s steering and suspension system. Suspension, when discussing cars, refers to the use of front and rear springs to suspend a vehicle’s “sprung” weight. The springs used on today’s cars and trucks are constructed in a variety of types, shapes, sizes, rates, and capacities. Types include leaf springs, coil springs, air springs, and torsion bars. These are used in sets of four for each vehicle, or they may be paired off in various combinations and are attached by several different mounting techniques.

The suspension system also includes shocks and/or struts, and sway bars. Back in the earliest days of automobile development, when most of the car’s weight (including the engine) was on the rear axle, steering was a simple matter of turning a tiller that pivoted the entire front axle. The suspension system has two basic functions, to keep the car’s wheels in firm contact with the road and to provide a comfortable ride for the passengers. A lot of the system’s work is done by the springs. Under normal conditions, the springs support the body of the car evenly by compressing and rebounding with every up-and-down movement. This up-and-down movement, however, causes bouncing and swaying after each bump and is very uncomfortable to the passenger. These undesirable effects are reduced by the shock absorbers.

Dirt Bike Jumps

Do I have to face dirt bike jumps?

If you ever want to ride on a motocross track you are going to have to learn to beat the dirt bike jumps. At first they are a very daunting affair, and riding at them with any pace seems almost suicidal but to get anywhere in dirt bike racing you need to face them and you need to beat them otherwise you won?t get anywhere and you won?t have any success. When you first start dirt bike racing you?ll be lucky to get a couple or feet of air and stay upright when you land, but this will all change when you have a little experience and a little knowledge behind you. The only real trick to being any good over dirt bike jumps is to practise and keep practising.

The best way to beat dirt bike jumps.

It?s true that there are no quick fixes to beat dirt bike jumps and the real key to success is to practise and keep practising. However, there are some basic guidelines that will increase you chance of success and it is these guidelines you should be practising.

Firstly, you posture should be that of a standing up position but crouched slightly and gripping the bike with your legs; if you don?t grip with your legs you and the bike are likely to become separated and this will ensure that you can land relatively comfortably in a sitting position. It also stops the bike from kicking out sideways if you hit a bump on the way up the ramp.

As you approach the ramp you should know pretty much exactly where you want to be on the up ramp; finding the line on the ramp and keeping an even throttle all the way up. Again, this will mean less chance of the bike jumping if you hit a bump or a rock.

If you want to land with your bike upright and you on the seat, then when you?ve got air you need to be looking where you?re going to land and amend your bike position accordingly so if you?re landing on the flat lift your handle bars before you hit the ground; this way your back wheel will make contact first and will take most of the pressure of the landing. If, however, you are landing on the down slope then you need your bike to be at the same angle as the slope. To alter your bike?s position, you can either rev while in the air which will drop the rear of your bike or you can let up on the clutch and apply the rear brakes giving the opposite effect.

The second before you land get straight onto your clutch, the revs will help your rear suspension take the blow and will give you good acceleration on landing. One of the hardest things about dirt bike jumps is having the confidence to pull it off. If you?re confident then you?ll stand more chance of doing everything as well as you can so practise and practise hard; don?t get too carried away at first though, just take it at your own pace.

Toyota Reveals New Pod Concept Car with exceptional Toyota Parts

Toyota has already unveiled a prototype of its Pod concept car, which has headlights that fade from bright to dull and change color to indicate happy, sad or angry moods, depending on how the driver inside is feeling. In a joint effort with Stanford University in the U.S and an Edinburgh based company Affective Media, carmaker giant Toyota has made another leap into making a car that can read one’s feelings.

Research showed that a driver’s emotional state affected how well they drove: If they were happy, they drove well and if they were sad, they tended to drive worse. “This is the next generation of car, which can detect what mood you are in,” said Affective Media CEO, Christian Jones. Identifying what mood the driver was in by detecting the emotion in their voice was taking things a step further, Jones said. “It’s not as sci-fi as it sounds. We already use our voices for different functions inside the car. It’s about giving appropriate information at the right time.” The in-car voice would talk to you in an attempt to improve the state of your mood. The technology would not act as a counselor to solve complex issues, but it would be more like a “best friend” who could cheer you up at the end of a long day,” added Jones.

The technology can let drivers to communicate with each other, in an effort to prevent road rage. The absence of communication between drivers on the road often led to road rage. An alarm is triggered off to rouse the driver whenever it detects the driver is drowsy, quiet and with flat speech Jones believed that “It would give certain information that would help. If they were in a hurry, the car would work out the safer, faster route instead of, perhaps, a scenic route,”

Winter Bike Riding — The Safe Way

Are you one of those motorcycle riders that live in northern climates where winters can be harsh and still choose to continue riding when the bitter winter sets in? As A Motor Head

As a motor head, I spend a lot of time studying my favorite thing, and that is muscle cars, I love them right to the end, and I don’t think anything can or should ever take them away from us, all these people that don’t see the use of the muscle cars or what they did for the automotive industry, I’m about to explain what they did, and will still do for the industry.

The first point that I will make here is simply this, the automotive manufactures use racing to test the durability and strength of their cars, they didn’t just build these cars on a whim, they were planed and thought out very carefully, racing is used to innovate new ideas for the safety and comfort of the people driving the car.

The competition makes the motor companies continue to develop better and better cars every year, it helps them make new metal alloys designed for strength and longevity, it help the oil companies make advances in their product that will ultimately help our cars last longer and run better.

Form racing the motor companies will build better suspension and steering components to help your car handle better and ride smoother, it will help you to feel your car better so you can know what’s on the road before it has a chance to hurt you or your car.

Racing is not just about the good old boys going out to have some fun on the weekend, although you can bet they do have fun driving their cars, especially when their in the winner circle in the end, the idea of racing cars is here to serve a purpose, and that purpose is to help keep you safe, and behind the wheel of your car, rather then in the back of an ambulance.

It’s obvious what one of the other this that racing does is, and that is to help promote the car companies products, because you know everybody likes a winner, so therefore it does help promote the sales of cars.

But you can bet without racing, the cars that we drive would not be anywhere near as safe as they are, so while those of you with limited thinking are out there saying that racing is just a waste of gas and time, I’ll bet you like all the neat things that it does for your cars, and the safety of the passengers in them, and no the imports don’t do it better then we do.

You have no idea how many times I’ve heard that all muscle cars are is gas guzzling dinosaurs that should be eliminated from the entire automotive world, and I guess it takes all kinds of people to make the world go around, but this just proves to me that a lot of people are nothing but idiots.
